an evening hike

Over the past few weeks Danny and I have been on the search for new trails in our beautiful Rocky Mountains. It's so nice to get away from the city for a few hours and breathe in the fresh air.
"Are not the mountains, waves and skies, a part of me and of my soul, as I of them?" - Lord Byron

It always seems that when I get myself to a lookout like this, my stresses and worries get a little bit smaller and I just feel so thankful for this body that moves and feels and grows.

A few weeks ago Danny and I saw a movie called, The Space Between Us. It was a cheesy teen romance and I loved everything about it -- but, the part that stuck with me the most was that this boy, who's lived on Mars his whole life and finally gets to visit Earth, asks everyone he meets this question: What's your favorite thing about Earth?

And for me, it's the mountains and the skies and the water and the trees. These things are so full of life and wonder and they make me so happy to be breathing. Our world can be a scary place these days, but in so many ways --  this planet of ours -- it is still so beautiful.

oh well, in five years time we could be walking round a zoo with sun shining down over me and you

This past month Danny and I celebrated our FIFTH wedding anniversary. Sometimes it feels as though all the wedding festivities were not that long ago and, at other times, I feel like Danny and I have been kindred spirits for a very long time.

Anyone that gets to know Danny will learn that he has a kind and loving heart, a brilliant mind, a relentless sense of adventure, and the will and determination to accomplish anything he sets his mind to. Most importantly, he is a man of faith and loves the Lord.

What you may not know (unless you follow me on Snapchat) is that he loves to belt showtunes at the top of his lungs, abbreviate and hashtag all the words, and can do impressions like nobody's business -- just ask for his Gordon Ramsay next time you see him. ;)

Anyway, I'm just really grateful for this guy and feel so lucky to call him mine.

In celebration of these past five years, we spent the weekend in the mountains. We had dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, The Blue Boar Inn, in Midway, hiked, swam, and enjoyed some much needed spa time.

I put together this video from our hike. I've been waiting for the right video to use this song, as it is my absolute favorite, and this one seemed like the perfect fit.

Happy five years, Danny! I love you!

(PS: I loved this picture I found in our hotel room. It reminds me of the opening sequence of Turn, which, if you have talked with me at all in the last year, you'll know it's my favorite show.)
