noah & the whale.
A few years ago Hannah introduced me to this little band called Noah & the Whale. Between the English accents, quirky music videos and fiddling, I fell in love. Needless to say I was thrilled when I found out they'd be coming to SLC.
The show opened with The Bahamas. Check out a video clip here. I love the old school sound with the addition of female backup singers!
And then the boys came out ...
Love love love these guys. They were wonderful. And just the little bit of English happiness I needed.
And of course, here are some videos: Blue Skies, My Door is Always Open, Rocks and Daggers, L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N., 5 Years Time, and The First Days of Spring.

bavarian sugar cookies.
"sometimes, when we lose ourselves in fear and despair, in routine and constancy, in hopelessness and tragedy, we can thank god for bavarian sugar cookies and, fortunately, when there aren't any cookies, we can still find reassurance in a familiar hand on our skin, or a kind and loving gesture, or subtle encouragement, or a loving embrace, or an offer of comfort, not to mention hospital gurneys and nose plugs, an uneaten danish, soft-spoken secrets, and fender stratocasters, and maybe the occasional piece of fiction. we must remember that all these things, the nuances, the anomalies, the subtleties, which we assume only accessorize our days, are effective for a much larger and nobler cause. they are here to save our lives."
